Gluten Free Austrian Recipes

These recipes are close to my heart, straight from the place where I grew up. Take my Mom's Linzer Cookies, for example—they’re like a delightful mix between a sugar cookie and shortbread, with that perfect melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. And you can't forget the Rum Kugeln! They’re rich, chocolatey, a tad boozy, and ridiculously easy to whip up. Each recipe here is a taste of Austria, made gluten-free so everyone can enjoy the flavors I’ve loved for years.

What makes Austrian Cuisine so special?

Austrian cuisine is all about comfort, tradition, and really good technique without making a big deal about it. It’s the kind of food that feels simple on the surface - think Kaiserschmarrn, schnitzel, or a slice of Marmorkuchen -but every detail matters, from texture to balance to how it’s served.

What makes it special is the mix of influences. Austria sat at the center of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire, so you’ll find hints of Hungarian, Czech, Italian, and Balkan flavors woven into classic dishes. That’s why the cuisine feels both familiar and a little different at the same time.

And then there’s the baking. Austrian desserts and pastries are in a league of their own - less overly sweet, more about flavor and texture. It’s the kind of food you come back to again and again because it just hits every time.
